Micon International Limited welcomes Michael Round, B.Sc. (Hons.), M.Sc., FGS, onboard as Manager, Technical Services.
Mike Round is an experienced mining geologist and technical leader with over a decade of international experience spanning exploration, project development, and consultancy. As Technical Director at Micon International, Mike manages the firm’s Canadian office, applying his multidisciplinary expertise to lead a wide range of projects and support business development initiatives.
Mike’s career blends hands-on exploration and operational fieldwork with strategic leadership in dynamic corporate settings. During his time at Cornish Lithium Ltd., he progressed from Senior Geologist to Head of Geothermal Lithium, where he led a 20-person multidisciplinary team across geology and engineering. He oversaw the application of novel direct lithium extraction (DLE) technologies targeting geothermal brines, managed multimillion-dollar exploration budgets, and helped align technical operations with broader corporate objectives.
He has worked across Europe and West Africa on projects involving precious and base metals, specialty minerals, and lithium brines. His core expertise includes the planning and execution of early-stage exploration programs, project management of technical studies, and the delivery of exploration advisory and due diligence assignments for international clients.
Mike holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Geology from the University of Birmingham and an M.Sc. in Mining Geology from the Camborne School of Mines. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM) and a Competent/Qualified Person under both the JORC Code (2012) and NI 43-101 standards.
